How it works
Each round shows a make, model and year. Type a number or slide to set your guess, then lock it in. The page reveals the typical asking price among cars of that model and year listed for sale in Canada.
A guess within 2 percent scores 100. The score falls steadily as you get further off, and reaches 0 at 50 percent away. After ten rounds you get a total out of 1,000 and a verdict.
The cars change each time you play, and the figures are refreshed every month. Your privacy comes first. Your guesses stay on your device.
What this does not cover
- The answer is a typical asking price, not what any one car costs. A particular car with more kilometres or a higher trim can be priced well above or below it.
- It is a game and a learning aid. For a real car, use the price check tool to see where its price sits.
- Only popular models with plenty of listings appear, so the answers are steady rather than based on a handful of cars.
Common questions
What counts as the right answer in the game?
The typical asking price, the middle of all listings of that model and model year in Canada this month. Half of the cars are listed for less and half for more.
How is the score worked out?
A guess within 2 percent of the typical price scores 100 points. The score falls in a straight line to 0 at 50 percent off. Ten rounds make a total out of 1,000.
Why play a car price guessing game?
Most people are surprised by how much more or less a given car costs than they think. Playing a few rounds builds a sense of prices that helps when you start shopping.
Where do the prices come from?
From cars listed for sale in Canada, counted by price and refreshed every month. The page shows which month they are from.
